Karim Benzema, who is still out of commission for Real Madrid, is upset at rumors that he was shielding himself for the World Cup. After a fantastic season in 2021–2022, in which Benzema led Real to a La Liga and Champions League double and earned his first Ballon d’Or, the Frenchman has had a difficult start to the club’s most recent season due to injuries. Real’s last three games have gone without Benzema, raising concerns over whether he is being held back in preparation for France’s World Cup run.

He’s tried to be available and he hasn’t been able to.” Given that the World Cup is in the middle of the season and that Benzema is 34 years old and not exactly a spring chicken, there have been rumors that he has been holding out for the tournament in Qatar. He has only started seven La Liga games this year, and he has only played in half of Real Madrid’s group-stage games in the Champions League.
With Cadiz scheduled to come at Santiago Bernabeu on Thursday, Los Blancos have one more La Liga match to play before the World Cup, although it is unclear if Benzema will participate with the World Cup just around the corner.
