Gotham FC wingback, Kelley O’Hara has made her intentions clear about how she feels regarding Megan Rapinoe‘s final game of her professional career. The two are set to face each other in the NWSL Championship finals as Gotham FC take on OL Reigns on the 11th of November.

Teammates on the US National Women’s team for over a decade and also lifting the World Cup together on two separate occasions (2015, 2019), Kelley O’Hara has zero intentions of rooting for her former teammate as she takes her on in the finals of the NWSL.

The 35-year-old stated:

Unfortunately, cannot hope for her to have a good last game. I mean, you can’t come up with a better storyline than the two of them playing their last game against each other for a championship. What those two have done for the U.S. team and just soccer in general in this country, around the world, has been incredible.

Kelley O’Hara clinched the 2021 NWSL with Washington Spirits. In contrast, Megan Rapinoe hasn’t won the NWSL Championship since it began in 2012, despite success elsewhere. Ali Krieger, O’Hara’s teammate, shares this sentiment and is retiring after the finals, still vying for the NWSL title. O’Hara praised both Krieger and Rapinoe, who are retiring after Saturday’s game.

With the two World Cup-winning teammates set to face each other in the finals of the game, both their clubs OL Reigns and Gotham FC will also be looking to win their maiden NWSL Championship.

After making it through the playoffs, both sides faced off against the 1st and 2nd placed teams in the league, Portland Thorns and San Diego Wave. Gotham FC and OL Reigns both won their semi-final fixtures 1-0 with Gotham FC’s game against Portland Thorns going all the way to extra-time.

While certain sections of the World will be unable to stream the finals ‘legally’, NWSL recently announced a media partnership with ESPN, CBS Sports, and Prime Video on a four-year deal from 2024 onwards, expanding their viewership.
