Key Tottenham star spends near to £1,000,000 to develop his game under Antonio Conte: Reports

Emerson Royal and Antonio Conte

Emerson Royal reportedly spent £1,000,000 trying to improve as a footballer for Tottenham in his desperate attempt to impress Antonio Conte. The 23-year-old wing-back got paid £25 million to join Spurs in 2021, but Conte was not immediately impressed, according to a January 2021 The Times report. Conte felt the wing-back “did not fit the bill” going forward.

However, Royal has made efforts to raise his level of play away from the practice field and according to the sources, he has bought his hyperbaric oxygen tank to maintain his level of fitness.

The Paris Saint-Germain defender Achraf Hakimi, who thrived in Conte’s system at Inter Milan and scored seven goals in just 45 appearances for the Nerazzurri, was also apparently the subject of a scouting report ordered by the Spurs wing-back. According to the story, Royal and his dad’s management team have recruited a neuroscientist to assist him in coping with the high demands of playing in the Premier League.

His perseverance and efforts to develop as a player appear to be paying off, as Royal has cemented the right back position for Tottenham this season, appearing in every game thus far and contributing one assist.

Emerson Royal has received criticism from many Tottenham supporters

The 23-year-old has drawn criticism from many Tottenham supporters for his lack of offensive threat, since Royal only contributed one goal and one assist in 41 games for Spurs the previous season.

However, Tottenham’s manager Conte recently expressed his admiration for the Brazilian, stating earlier this month that he was “really happy with” Royal and that he impressed him with his work ethic. Conte also noted that “he has improved a lot since last season.”

A significant portion of that might be attributable to the work he purportedly did researching Hakimi, who is regarded as one of the top defenders in European football. Interestingly it was his dad, Emerson Zulu, who reportedly ordered the scout report to help his son study the PSG right back, who has two goals and two assists in 11 games for the Parisian club this season.

The defender has also reportedly drafted in neuroscientist and human behaviour specialist Dr Fabiano de Abreu Agrela, who has previously worked with other professional footballers including one-time QPR loanee Eduardo Vargas. Dr. Abreu Agrela claimed that Royal was dedicated to become better and that the defender had fully embraced his teachings.

Dr. De Abreu stated to the sources: “He [Royal] is willing to do what it takes to give and be at his best.

”It’s not easy for a player to leave a type of culture and expectations and go to the fastest and most demanding league on the planet. This adaptation plays with the mind.”
