Days after Germany boss Hansi Flick was sacked by the DFB, Jürgen Klopp‘s name came forward as one of the likely candidates for the German job. Hansi Flick became the first manager ever to be sacked by the German Football Association in its history. Following a poor run of games post-World Cup, the German boss was under pressure ahead of the match vs. Japan. After the embarrassing 4-1 loss to the Samurai Blue, Flick ended up being sacked in spite of reassurances that he was the man for the job.
However, Jürgen Klopp appeared as a frontrunner as the heir to Flick. There were rumours circulating that the Liverpool manager was the primary target ahead of the 2024 Euros, which Germany is set to host. However, Klopp’s agent Marc Kosicke shut down all rumours, saying that Klopp is still under contract with the Reds and that Anfield is still his first priority. He said that the “long-term contract” with Liverpool is Klopp’s priority and that he is not available for the Germany job.
When asked about the idea of coaching the National team earlier, Klopp did admit that it would be an “honour” and a big achievement to do so. However, his “loyalty” and “commitment” to Liverpool hinted that he would not leave Anfield on short notice. Liverpool fans have had a sigh of relief, following the Mohamed Salah to Al-Ittihad rumours anr Klopp to Germany rumours have come to an end, at least for now. Klopp’s contact with Liverpool keeps him at Anfield until 2026.

Jurgen Klopp names 23-man squad for Europe League

As Anfield is set to host Europa League Football after 7 long years, Jürgen Klopp had a task at hand to name his 23-man squad for the group stages of the competition. With multiple rules and regulations as to which players can be selected and included, Klopp and Liverpool announced the final squad that will feature for Thursday night football. With almost every big-name player making the final list, Klopp had to make one exclusion after the latest signing of midfielder Ryan Gravenberch.
Backup keeper Adrian was surprisingly left out of the final 23. He failed to make the list of Alisson, Kelleher and Vitezslav Jaros who is back after a season-long loan with Stockport County. A-list selections include new signings Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister and Wataru Endo who Liverpool signed for €19m from Bundesliga club Stuttgart. In defence, Virgil Van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Joe Gomez, Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold are the big names.

Thiago Alcantara, who is yet to make an appearance for the club this season after a thigh injury has been named in Klopp’s list of midfielders for the competition. In attack, regulars like Mohamed Salah, Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo have found their spot in the list of attackers. Darwin Nuñez leads the line while young talent Ben Doak has also been listed in the 23-man squad.
