Kylian Mbappe has once again stressed that this year will be his last season in Ligue 1. The Frenchman’s contract with PSG runs out next year and he is in no mood to sign an extension. His main ambition is to win the Champions League. The striker has said that he intends to stay at the club this season.
When asked why he is not looking to continue at the club after that he says,“It’s very simple, I’m a competitor, when I play, it’s to win. It doesn’t matter who I play with, what shirt I wear or where I play, I never settle. I just want to win, win CL. I’ll never be satisfied.” The player has lifted four league titles in his time at the club. Yet the Champions League title always eludes him.
PSG have made it clear that Mbappe must either sign an extension or leave the club. They will not let the player who they bought for £160m from AS Monaco leave for free. However, the club demanded a price of around £200m for the player which might price him out of a transfer.
The Parisians are going through a rebuilding process under newly appointed manager Luis Enrique. The treble-winning manager has promised a more attacking brand of football in the club. Players like Lionel Messi and Sergio Ramos have already left the club, while Neymar is also unsettled. Major signings are also being targeted which include Harry Kane, Bernando Silva and Joao Felix. Thus, all the parties involved in this Mbappe saga want it to resolve as soon as possible.

Kylian Mbappe’s rivalry with Erling Haaland
One of the other things which do not help is the player’s constant comparisons to Erling Haaland. Both the players were dubbed as the successors of the Messi- Ronaldo rivalry.
Haaland recently won the European treble with Manchester City, breaking numerous goalscoring records on the way. The need for Mbappe now to win the Champions League is more than ever as he risks falling behind the Norwegian otherwise.
Last season, Haaland scored 52 goals in all competitions while Mbappe managed to score 41. The Premier League is also considered a tougher place to succeed than Ligue 1. Therefore, the PSG striker must make a move before he falls behind in the rivalry. Real Madrid will always seem ideal due to their European pedigree.
