Paris Saint-Germain came out victorious in Le Classique on Sunday. The Ligue 1 champions showed that their twelve-point lead in the competition was not to be taken away by their most fierce rivals. Despite goals from Vitinha and Gonçalo Ramos, Kylian Mbappe played little part in his team’s important win at Stade Velodrome. The Frenchman was subbed off in the 65th minute, and he was not ‘happy’ to say the least.
It has been a recurring pattern to see PSG boss Luis Enrique subbing off Kylian Mbappe in the second half. At times, the Spaniard has also made the decision to leave the club captain on the bench. Following the 25-year-old’s decision to part ways with the club at the end of the season, Enrique has often justified his actions by claiming that the club have to get accustomed to playing without him one way or the other.
Yesterday’s match featured the same, and the Frenchman made no effort to conceal his frustration and unhappiness. As the third official held up his board, camera quickly turned to Mbappe, whose expression spoke a thousand words.
He frowned gently before shaking his head in disapproval as he took off his captain’s armband. The stadium rang with the sound of whistles and cheers as Gonçalo Ramos came in for the captain.
Luis Enrique still hopeful that Kylian Mbappe Mbappe stays with PSG
The footballing community is largely convinced that Kylian Mbappe is set to join Real Madrid upon expiry of his PSG contract. However, head coach Luis Enrique is still convinced that the Frenchman may change his mind and stay with the Parisiens. Despite him deciding to sub off the player against Marseille, he is hopeful that PSG’s No.10 will end up staying with them in a repeat of what happened last season.
I'm still hoping that Kylian (Mbappe) will change his mind. He hasn't said anything and he can still change his mind. Imagine we win four titles this season and he makes the last-minute decision that his home is Paris.Luis Enrique told Prime Video
Real Madrid have been running behind the player for his signature for the larger part of the last two seasons. However, it was only in February that the player announced that he will be leaving the French capital when his contract expires at the end of the season.
Mbappe leads the charts in Ligue 1, having scored 24 goals and 5 assists in 25 games. His side have been drawn against FC Barcelona in the Champions League in a repeat of the 2021 Round of 16. Despite PSG having the upper hand in recent seasons, the two sides are perfectly balanced with 4 wins each in their head-to-head record.
