Kylian Mbappe looks all set to dethrone Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo as the ‘next big thing’. Even though Erling Haaland cannot be completely ignored, ex-Ballon d’Or winner Ronaldinho Gaúcho weighed in on what the future looks like for the PSG star. According to the Brazilian, Mbappe is a ‘great’ player.
A great player like him can have the chance to win the Ballon d’Or for any team.
Ronaldinho also admitted that he is in good ‘friendship’ terms with the French star.
He also said that a player of his ability can win the Ballon d’Or with any team. However, Ronaldinho pointed to his history with PSG and added:
But as I love PSG, I want him to do it with PSG.
Despite Kylian Mbappe’s impressive skills and goal-scoring, he secured his first Ballon d’Or podium in 2023, finishing behind Lionel Messi (winner) and Erling Haaland (runner-up). At 24, many anticipate him winning soon, especially with Messi and Ronaldo nearing the end of their careers. However, his achievements like a World Cup final hat-trick, becoming PSG‘s top scorer and winning Ligue 1 didn’t clinch the 2023 Ballon d’Or.
Kylian Mbappe’s future with PSG is in the balance as a move to Real Madrid is all but complete. It remains to be seen whether the 24-year-old will extend with the Parisians or call time on his career in France.
Kylian Mbappe leads 10-man PSG to victory in Ligue 1
PSG are cruising under Luis Enrique as they clinched their 7th straight victory in Ligue 1. The French giants saw off Le Havre on 3rd December as Kylian Mbappe and Vitinha covered for an early Gianluigi Donnarumma red card. The Parisians rose to 33 points after 14 games, putting distance between them and second-placed Nice. 2nd placed Nice suffered their first loss of the season, enabling PSG to establish a 4-point lead at the top.
PSG were in trouble early on, as Donnarumma saw straight red for a tackle on Josué Casimir. A depleted PSG were saved by captain Kylian Mbappe, who once again proved why Real Madrid are after his contract. His sublime shot from the edge of the box gave Arthur Desmas no chance. Ousmane Dembele then hit the post before substitute keeper Arnau Tenas made 3 crucial saves to keep PSG in the running.
Vitinha’s amazing strike in the 89th minute from long-range finished off the home side as PSG won 2-0 on the night. Mbappe now has a whopping 15 goals in Ligue 1, more than double (7) the goals scored by second-place Akor Adams from Montpellier. Subsequently, upcoming games against Nantes and LOSC Lille will determine who will clinch the top spot ahead of the 20-game mark this season.
