“That’s a massive difference!” – Kylian Mbappe being compared to Usain Bolt for completing 100m in 10.9 seconds during Champions League outing doesn’t sit well with fans on Twitter
Kylian Mbappe may be fast, but is he as fast as Lightning Bolt?

Football pages often resort to wild claims and tricks to farm interactions and likes. Kylian Mbappe was the subject of a similar post, where a popular page on X (formerly Twitter) with over 10 million followers made a claim regarding the Frenchman’s speed. While Usain Bolt holds the record for being the ‘fastest man alive’, with his record of 10.9 seconds over 100 metres, Mbappe allegedly did the same little over a second more.
While this post does not aim to question the veracity of this claim, a look at the comments and reactions under the post reveals that fans certainly weren’t amused. Mbappe may be fast, and arguably one of the fastest in the sport, but that doesn’t mean he is anywhere close to the swiftness of the legendary track icon. The French forward’s top speed has been clocked at 35.67k m/h in a PSG shirt.
As for Bolt, his best stands at a monumental 43.99 km/h according to a study in 2011! That being said, the PSG No.7 shouldn’t be mentioned in the same sentence as the word ‘slow’.
He has time and again used his explosive pace to his advantage, beating opponents with ease. The Frenchman, with his potential move to Madrid, will soon light up the Santiago Bernabeu with his explosive pace.
Fans react to wild claims of Kylian Mbappe being ‘as fast as’ Usain Bolt
Football Twitter is not a kind place for those who make mistakes. A popular football page came under criticism as they compared Kylian Mbappe’s pace to that of Usain Bolt. A fan was quick to comment that this page was ‘fooling’ no one and that a seconds difference means light years in track. A fan asked the page to quickly delete the post before further humiliation.
Another laughed at how Mbappe’s 10.9 second record would place him dead last in a 100m race with other professional athletes. Another even said that Mbappe wouldn’t even make the heats of the 2016 Olympics with that pace. A fan of Bolt said that the comparison was disrespectful to the legend and that it was shameful to even mention their pace in the same sentence.
A fan took it as an opportunity to recall how Usain Bolt was linked with Borussia Dortmund and Manchester United in a phase where he tried to become a professional footballer. While Bolt didn’t ‘make it’ as a professional footballer, fans have stated that Mbappe wouldn’t make it as a sprinter either. The 25-year-old is in his final season at PSG and will join Real Madrid come the end of the season.
