La Liga 2022-23 Fixtures Revealed: Real Madrid and Barcelona to clash in October and March, Madrid Derby to take place in September and February
The 2022/23 La Liga season will begin with defending champions Real Madrid visiting Almeria in what will be the host’s first top-flight game in seven years, while Barcelona will host Rayo Vallecano. Real Valladolid and Girona, two other newly-promoted teams, face Villarreal and Valencia, respectively.
The World Cup in Qatar will take place during the mid-season break, beginning on November 12th/13th, 2022, with league action, resumed in Spain 10 days after the World Cup concludes.
The first Clasico takes place at the Santiago Bernabeu on October 16th and the second one takes place at Camp Nou on March 19th. The dates are very similar to the one last term. In 2021-22, the Camp Nou hosted the first meeting on 24th October while the second game was at the Bernabeu on 20th March.
Barcelona had the better head-to-head record between the sides. Despite losing 1-2 to Real Madrid when Koeman was still in charge, Xavi’s Barcelona thumped Madrid 0-4 at the Bernabeu in the second meeting.
The two Madrid derbies will be held on September 18 and February 26 respectively. The first fixture is at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium and the return fixture is at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.
Real Madrid are bookies favourite to retain the La Liga title with Barcelona and Atletico Madrid struggling
Real Madrid will already be considered the favourite to retain their La Liga title. Carlo Ancelotti’s side followed up their domestic title by defeating Liverpool to win a record 14th Champions League in Paris at the end of the 2021/22 season, and they have strengthened during the summer transfer window by signing Aurelien Tchouameni and Antonio Rudiger.
Barcelona and Atletico Madrid will continue to be the two most likely challengers to Real Madrid. Neither club is in a good place right now, but there is still a lot of time left in the transfer window. Barcelona is currently riding a somewhat chaotic wave as they try to get as much business done as possible, while Atletico Madrid is also looking to improve Diego Simeone’s squad.
