A 16-year-old Barcelona star receiving a standing ovation at the Santiago Bernabeu! Lamine Yamal joined the list of very few players following his stellar performance against Brazil on Wednesday. The young winger was at the heart of Spain’s attack against Brazil and played a crucial role in two of his side’s three goals on the night.
Yamal is no stranger to the big stage. Having already racked up 28 appearances in La Liga itself, the youngster displayed a maturity beyond his years as he took on the Brazilian backline by himself. He initially drew a foul from Joao Gomes to earn his side a penalty in the 12th minute. He then teed up Dani Olmo for his side’s second of the night.
The crowd at the Santiago Bernabeu was taken aback by the youngster’s passionate display and couldn’t help but rise in respect as he made his way to the tunnel in the 92nd minute of the game.
Fans took to the comments as one supporter said that Joan Laporta was right to turn down the €200 million offers for the Spaniard. With him showing no signs of his current form being a ‘purple patch’, fans can expect more of the same in years to come.
Spain boss yet to make up mind on final squad following draw against Brazil
With the 2024 European Championship edging all the more closer, managers are equipped with the difficult task of putting forward their ‘best’ squad for the competition. Despite an impressive display from several players against Brazil at the Bernabeu, head coach Luis de la Fuente said that he is yet to finalize his starting line-up for the tournament.
A 1-0 loss to Colombia and a thrilling 3-3 draw against Brazil mean that the La Roja are yet to taste victory in 2024. Lamine Yamal has forced his way up the pecking order with his recent performances while the return of Pedri also puts doubt on whom to start and whom to bench in midfield. Spain have just one friendly against Andorra before the start of the Euros in June.
We have World class players that generate expectations. These performances make my job very difficult because there's a lot to choose from & that's very good.Luis de la Fuente via Marca
Spain will not have an easy set of games in Group B, as they have been drawn alongside Croatia, defending champions Italy and Albania.
