Bayern Munich certainly did not look like the best team in Germany on Saturday night. Thomas Tuchel could only watch on as his side conceded three goals against Xabi Alonso‘s Bayer Leverkusen side. A muted performance was summed up by a ‘poorly’ conceded goal in the final minutes. Many pointed their finger at Manuel Neuer, who went on an ‘adventure’ in the opposition post, leaving his goal unguarded.

Leroy Sane made a futile attempt to cover for his captain as he rushed to his team’s goal. He could only watch on in vain as Jeremie Frimpong‘s shot hit the back of the net. His frustration was ‘caught in 4K’ (maybe a lower resolution) as he chose to punch the camera set up inside the goalpost. Bayern stars didn’t have the best of nights against Leverkusen, and Thomas Muller was ‘fuming’ in his post-match interview.

Sane himself had a ‘mediocre’ performance as per his standards. The German winger was one of the best players for his side on a night on which the team managed to make just one shot on target in the whole 90 minutes.

To add to Bayern’s embarrassment, Bayern loanee Josip Stanisic scored against his parent club, evoking a less than ‘welcome’ response from boss Thomas Tuchel. He wanted the player not to play against them, as was the rule in the Premier League.

Fans laugh at Bayern Munich and Leroy Sane after embarrassing defeat on Saturday

Leroy Sane managed zero shots on goal against Bayer Leverkusen. He did take one shot that did hit the target though, even though it was aimed at the camera placed inside the Bayern goal. A fan laughed at how Sane found the target at least at the end of the game. Another recalled the ‘fight’ between Leroy Sane and Sadio Mane last season and labeled the video’s caption as Sane’s POV.

Some, however, saw it as a positive and claimed that his reaction was so highlighted only because he was passionate and cared about the loss. As always, netizens found this to be the next viral meme that will take over football Twitter. Bayern Munich have developed a habit of unleashing their ‘frustration’ on FC Barcelona as it has been in previous seasons.

A Barca fan hoped that his club wouldn’t have to pay for this loss at some point shortly. Some laughed at the Bayern players’ reaction to the loss and asked whether the group of players hadn’t won the Bundesliga in several years. Bayern Munich are now five points behind Xabi Alonso and co., giving fans all the more reason to expect a new champion at the end of the season.
