Grant Wahl, the renowned US soccer journalist recently went viral after being detained by the Qatar officials for wearing a t-shirt in support of LGBTQ community. Yesterday while covering the Argentina vs Netherlands sensational game, the journalist was reported to have passed away. The journalist’s brother has come out suggesting foul play in the death.
Grant Wahl, before heading to Qatar was very clear about his opposition towards the Qatar FIFA World Cup. The US journalist, as a sign of protest, during the earlier games of the tournament decided to show up with a t-shirt representing the LGBTQ community. After the journalist decided to breach Qatar’s rules, he was also detained.
Weeks later, yesterday, while covering the quarter-final game between Lionel Messi’s Argentina and Van Dijk’s Netherlands, the journalist reportedly collapsed in Doha. Given his brief dispute with the authorities last month, rumors of the Qatari officials’ foul play behind this mysterious death have increased. To add this suspicion, Grant Wahl’s brother, Eric Wahl, posted an Instagram video where he suggests foul play behind the death of the journalist.
In his Instagram video, he said, “I am Grant Wahl’s brother. I’m gay. I’m the reason he wore the rainbow shirt to the World Cup. My brother was healthy. He told me he received death threats. I do not believe my brother just died. I believe he was killed. And I just beg for any help.”

Who does the late journalist Grant Wahl work for?
Grant Wahl was renowned sports journalist in the US and was working with Sports Illustrated before he decided to part ways and write on his own website which can be accessed by subscription. On the website, Wahl made sure he covered football from all over the world and also give more coverage to the US national soccer team. He was also part of the Fox Sports Soccer coverage team.
Wahl’s death has been considered a huge loss to the entire US journalist fraternity. His work will forever be appreciated by his peers and the outpour of condolences and mourning on the internet from popular media and soccer established speaks to the late journalist’s work.

The reason behind his death is yet to be confirmed officially. According to the Tribune India, Wahl had written in his website that he recently paid a visit to the doctor, who believed he might have bronchitis. Wahl himself said on Monday that his health condition was “No Bueno” despite taking medications from the hospital.
