Argentina faced Ecuador in their opening World Cup Qualifiers game on Friday. The game marked Lionel Messi‘s first international outing after his move to Inter Miami over the summer. The Argentine led his side to a 1-0 win and got their campaign running against Ecuador. The home side (Argentina) saw off the visitors with the help of a lone Lionel Messi goal.
Following the game, a clip of the Argentina number 10 went viral. In a video that went viral on social media, Lionel Messi was seen ’embarrassing’ Moises Caicedo of Chelsea in an earlier game where the two teams clashed. Messi is seen doing his trademark ‘drop-of-the-shoulder’, when Chelsea’s $150m man attempted to close him down at the centre of the pitch. The superstar deftly did a feint, and turned one side, before slowing down and going the other way, leaving Caicedo in the dust.
Netizens have praised Lionel Messi for his marvelous dribbling skills, even at the age of 36. The video that surfaced is not of today’s game but from an earlier meeting of the two sides. Today, the Albiceleste triumphed over Ecuador thanks to a sublime Messi Free-kick. The Argentine’s deadly strike went up and above the Ecuador wall, leaving Hernรกn Galรญndez helpless, before finding its way to the top left corner.
The strike marked Leo Messi’s 65th Free-kick goal in his career, making him level with England’s legend David Beckham. The Argentine talked to the press after the game, saying that this was a wonderful way to get things started for this ‘new campaign’.
Is age finally catching up with Lionel Messi?

After the full-time whistle against Ecuador, Lionel Messi took his time to speak to the Press. The Argentina number 10 was yet again the difference for his side after his brilliant Free-kick in the second half was the difference between the two sides. Messi came off at 89 minutes, with fans fearing injury. However, the Argentine spoke to the press, clearing up the air. The 36-year-old said that it was fatigue and not anything else.
Messi said, “I came out because I was a bit tired. It’s probably not the last time this will happen. It’s all good, I’m fine.” Lionel Messi has played 10 games in the last 44 days for club Inter Miami and has not missed a single game since his signing. The 36-year-old admitted to age catching up with him, while saying that he is ‘okay’. Argentina is set to face Bolivia on the 13th of September before the end of the international break.
