“Neither planned nor desired,” Lionel Messi takes huge dig at PSG over brief spell at Ligue 1 club

Lionel Messi recently confessed that his move to the French club earlier in his career was ultimately out of his hands. He was stuck in a situation where he was forced to decide against his will. “My move to PSG was neither planned nor desired, I did not want to leave Barcelona.” While his career at his boyhood club was nothing short of a fairytale, it has since been a rollercoaster ride for Messi.

The Argentinian’s time in Paris was rather uncomfortable for him. He never seemed completely immersed in the game or enjoying football. This came as a disappointment to PSG fans, who were often vocal in their dissent against him. He was ‘booed’ many times by them while still performing. This would be harsh on any player, let alone an introverted person like Messi.

There were always huge expectations on the shoulders of the deadly trio of Messi, Neymar, and Kylian Mbappe. However, they never seemed to find their chemistry on the pitch on the biggest occasions. While Messi had always continued his magical skills, passes, and goals, French fans never truly appreciated him. Many fans worldwide even called this mistreatment of one of the greatest players ever.

Now that Lionel Messi has moved to Inter Miami and is already making headlines with his ‘world-class’ performances, fans expect he is happier than he was in France. Messi had also not interacted much with the media during his time at PSG. While he was rather vocal with his Barcelona and even now with Inter Miami, this bride stint will always be viewed as ‘avoidable’ by the player.

When PSG suspended Lionel Messi over Saudi Trip

Football fans were horrified to learn that Paris Saint Germain had suspended Messi over a sponsorship trip to Saudi Arabia. Much like the fans, it must have also been a horror to Messi himself. As a result, Messi had to apologize to the club in a video statement out of courtesy.

The global reaction to the situation came in bitterly for the French club. They were massively accused of disrespecting the player, just trying to enjoy family time on a trip away from work. Messi’s time at PSG has heavily been criticized as just a ‘money move’ lacking emotional connection, which he shared with Barcelona. Ever since Messi had won the World Cup with Argentina over France in the final, the country had turned its hostility towards him.

Messi’s parting ways from the club might’ve chipped in when they made him commit the act. He was appointed as the tourism ambassador for the country, but his trip resulted in the club suspending him from featuring in two games without pay. PSG have always been run interestingly, still trying to find their ways of being European Champions.
