Lionel Messi left PSG to join MLS side Inter Miami in the summer of 2023. The Argentine’s signature gave a significant boost to both Inter Miami and MLS as a whole. His ‘influence’ has not only improved the visibility of the league but has also caused a boom in property prices. According to a neighbour of the World Cup winner, his gated community in South Florida is now worth over $25 million.
Lionel Messi initially rented out a $9 million apartment prior to splurging on a $10.75 million waterfront mansion in Fort Lauderdale. His residence boasts ten bedrooms, a spa room, multiple boat docks and a balcony that offers an immaculate view of the skyline. His mansion occupies a sprawling 10,500 square feet. He lives with his wife Antonela Roccuzzo and three children.
Messi’s neighbour Patrick Bet-David said that ever since Messi moved in right next to him, ‘everybody’ wants to be in their community. Bet-David told VladTV:
So far I've already made $25 million equity on the house I own.Patrick Bet-David on living next to Lionel Messi
However, he did express safety concerns ever since the Argentine’s arrival. The community is gated with only one way to go in and out. But a large number of people have been flocking on their boats to get a look at the superstar’s mansion.
Lionel Messi set to miss at least 7 games for Inter Miami in 2024
Lionel Messi will feature in his first full season for Inter Miami in 2024 after joining the club owned by David Beckham in July 2023. Even though the #10 played a crucial role in the club’s first-ever trophy, his influence in the MLS regular season was extremely limited. He only featured in six games for Miami. They also failed to make the playoffs and finished in 14th position.
As per the existing MLS and International calendar, the Argentine will miss 7 games for The Herons. 2026 World Cup qualifiers and 2024 Copa America games. While Miami have already brought in Luis Suarez to join Messi, Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets, the Argentine’s absence in crucial games may negatively impact the team’s form. He will miss games against DC United, Columbus Crew, FC Cincinnati, Charlotte, Nashville, NY Red Bulls and Philadelphia Union.
Last season, Messi was forced to sit out a bunch of games toward the end of Inter Miami’s season, negatively impacting their chances of qualification. Subsequently, Miami will start their 2024 season on February 21st against Real Salt Lake. The club have also lined up matches against Newell’s Old Boys for their preseason.
