Lionel Messi is ready to move to Saudi Arabia and will face Cristiano Ronaldo.

Lionel Messi has reportedly agreed a deal to sign Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal. Sergio Busquets is also said to be on his way to the club. Messi’s future has been one of the big talking points in the football world since the World Cup with his PSG contract up at the end of the season. The Argentina captain has been linked with lots of teams including Inter Miami and a return to Barcelona but now he may have settled on another club instead.
According to reports, he has agreed to sign for Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal with former Barcelona team-mates, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba, who are also set to join him in Riyadh. The deal is said to be worth around £ 262 million a year which is going to be one of the most expensive contracts in football history.
Messi’s move would see him face his old rival Ronaldo again as the duo re-establish their rivalry in the Middle East. Busquets joining alongside the Argentine would also be a blow to the 38-year-old after Al-Nassr hoped to sign him themselves.
Last week, Messi was banned and fined by PSG for two weeks after making an unsanctioned trip to Saudi Arabia after the Ligue 1 defeat to Lorient. Messi apologized for his actions last Friday, suggesting it was an honest mistake as he believed the team had a day off. Messi was not selected against Troyes even though he was available.
In his apology The Argentine said, “First of all, I want to apologise to my teammates and the club. Honestly, I thought we were going to have a day off after the game like we did in previous weeks. I had this trip organised, which I had cancelled already. I could not cancel it again. I repeat, I want to say sorry for what I did. I am waiting to hear what the club want to do with me.”
Messi already plays a significant role within Saudi Arabian society serving as a tourism ambassador for the country. And now it’s looking like he will start playing football in the Middle East as well.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s old teammate chooses Lionel Messi over him in the GOAT debate
Cristiano Ronaldo‘s former Real Madrid teammate Mesut Ozil recently claimed that Paris Saint-Germain superstar Lionel Messi is currently ahead of the Portuguese after winning the World Cup. Ozil was recently asked to share his take on the Ronaldo v Messi debate.
The former Real Madrid and Arsenal superstar has previously picked Ronaldo in the debate on multiple occasions. Hence, his decision to side with Lionel Messi might come as a surprise. Cristiano Ronaldo and Mesut Ozil formed an amazing partnership during their time at Real Madrid. They shared the pitch for 149 games, with 39 combined goals.
Ronaldo, however, didn’t name Ozil when the Portuguese superstar recently picked the best XI consisting of his former teammates. In the defense, Ronaldo picked Real Madrid legends Marcelo and Sergio Ramos, Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand, and Juventus legend Giorgio Chiellini.
In midfield, the 38-year-old opted for Real Madrid midfielders Toni Kroos and Luka Modric and Man United legend Paul Scholes. In the attack line, Ronaldo picked the likes of Gareth Bale, Wayne Rooney, and Karim Benzema.
