Lionel Messi has always been a humble superstar, acknowledging the teammates who have helped him reach his full potential on the field. The Argentine legend scored a staggering 672 goals in 778 games for FC Barcelona, the club where he began his professional career. Messi credited Ronaldinho, who assisted his first goal for the club, as one of his mentors and friends.

Messi also named some of the players who have been his role models and partners on the field, such as Ronaldinho, Deco, Samuel Eto’o, Luis Suarez, Xavi, Andrés Iniesta, Sergio Busquets, and Neymar Jr. Messi said, “I was lucky enough to play with the best players and enjoy the game with them.” Messi has been the ultimate teammate for many players, but he also recognized the greatness of those who have shared the pitch with him.

Messi didn’t rank the players he named, but rather rattled them off as they came to his mind. “I’ve been lucky enough to play with the best players and strikers. Like Neymar, Eto’o, Suarez, [Zlatan] Ibrahimovic and [David Villa], and many more. I’ve been comfortable playing with all or almost all of them because I’ve been lucky enough to play with the best of them. … playing with them is easy.” He added the Swedish and Spanish stars to his list, who were both prolific scorers alongside him at Barcelona.

Messi recently completed a move to Inter Miami after his stint in France with PSG. It will be entertaining to see if any of the players in the MLS ever make his list once he finally decides to hang up his boots and call shots at his illustrious career.

Lionel Messi has had a dream year in 2022. He finally lifted the World Cup trophy with Argentina and then joined Inter Miami, where he has been dazzling the MLS fans with his skills and goals. He has scored three times and assisted once in his first two games for the club, wearing the eye-catching pink jersey. Messi looks happy and relaxed at his new home, where he is surrounded by admiration and respect.

While his move to America was surprising for many, it seems like he has finally accepted to find a life like an average person. From grocery shopping to attending Coldplay concerts, Messi finally appears to be giving time to his family and living in a different environment than Europe in the last phase of his career.

Lionel Messi’s time in Miami comes with its commercial advantages to the league and owner David Beckham who had earlier joked about the possibility of moving one of the game’s biggest names to his club. Now, it’s evident that even the United States also appreciate the presence of greatness among them, with his fantastic start and last-minute free-kick setting the league on fire and attracting celebrities to attend the game, from Kim Kardashian to LeBron James.
