Inter Miami has officially been eliminated from the MLS Playoffs following a one-nil defeat at home to FC Cincinnati. With only two games remaining for Miami, Lionel Messi’s season may come to an early end as the player is yet to be one hundred per cent fit following an earlier injury,

Inter Miami will now play their final two games of the season by the end of the month after which the club will not play another game in the MLS until the new season begins in late February. A disappointing end to the season, the acquisitions of Lionel MessiJordi Alba and Sergio Busquets proved not enough for the club who were deadlast before the trio’s arrival. The club only won a single game out of six in the duration of Messi’s absence which further hurt their chances at a possible qualification.

Since Messi’s debut, Inter Miami have lost just one game out of the 13 in which the player has featured. However, the majority of the games came in the form of domestic cup appearances leading to only 5 appearances for the Argentine in the MLS. David Beckham, Inter Miami owner, will be disappointed with the result but will also be hopeful for the future as the club has shown that with Lionel Messi, the team is capable of aiming high next season.

Lionel Messi’s injury immensely affected Inter Miami

Lionel Messi’s World Cup qualifier game against Ecuador spelt trouble for Inter Miami as the player suffered a 2cm Hamstring Tear that kept him out against Argentina’s second game against Bolivia. Inter Miami already had missed the Argentine for two MLS games due to his International duties, now it seemed they had to wait longer.

Upon his return against Toronto, the Argentine was subbed off in the first half of the game with claims of his injury being reaggravated. Since then, Inter Miami has failed to register a single win in the MLS and also lost the U.S Cup final against Houston Dynamo.

Lionel Messi’s return in Inter Miami’s latest game however did not prove enough as the visitors scored in the 78th minute of the game claiming all three points. This was Messi’s first loss in an Inter Miami kit which also marked the end of a rather disastrous MLS season as the club failed to make playoffs.
