World Cup winner and seven-time Ballon Dor winner Lionel Messi swapped his jersey with his Argentine teammate Alan Velasco. The event took place when Messi’s Inter Miami faced up FC Dallas in the league cup round of 16.
The shirt swapping took place after Velasco’s team, FC Dallas, were done with the game against Messi’s new home in America. The video of the same went viral soon after.
The clash between the two teams resulted in a thriller scorecard of 4-4, which was then followed by a penalty shootout. Inter Miami won the penalty shootout 5-3, with Paxton Pomykal missing the penalty for the Toros. Messi scored the opener inside six minutes, with his ex-Barcelona teammate Jordi Alba assisting him.
Dallas soon took the lead of 3-1 while Inter Miami’s Benjamin Cremaschi made it 3-2. Soon enough, the two own goals took place from both sides to make it 4-3. Then in the 84th min, Leo Messi scored an unbelievable free-kick outside the penalty box ending up at the top corner. This late equalizer brought a comeback for Inter Miami, which led them to win this entertaining match.
Inter Miami reached the quarter-final of the competition, where they will face a team still to be decided. The match will take place on 11th August 2023.

Messi joined Inter Miami from Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer this season. His stats at the beginning of his US career are already on the up.
The Argentine so far has played a total of four matches for Inter Miami, where he scored 7 goals, scoring a brace in three of them. According to his playing time at the club, which is about 305 minutes, he scores 2.2 goals per match, which is insane. Messi also has one assist for the club. He is also the leading scorer in the League Cup. Before Leo’s arrival, Inter Miami were winless in the last six matches, and after that, they have managed to win all four of them.
It will be interesting to see at which point Messi ends this season because he might break his own record of scoring 91 goals in a single season.
