Lionel Messi threatened after family’s store attacked in Argentina
The mayor suspects even the law enforcement might be involved in the crime as no one is
Lionel Messi’s wife Antonella Racuzzo’s family went through a harrowing experience as a departmental store owned by the family was involved in a shootout on Thursday. The gunmen left a threatening message after attacking a supermarket in Rosario, Argentina. The local law enforcement has not yet managed to hold anyone accountable. Nobody was injured in the early morning attack.
Police said two men on a motorcycle fired a minimum of twelve shots into the supermarket in the early hours. They left a piece of cardboard with a message that said, “Messi, we’re waiting for you. Javkin is also a drug trafficker, so he won’t take care of you,” referring to Rosario mayor Pablo Javkin. The motif of the attack is still unclear and remains a mystery. The Argentine captain has not commented on the incident. Messi plays for Paris Saint-Germain in France. Therefore, he spends most of his time abroad, although he often visits his home in Rosario.
Javkin appeared to throw suspicion on federal security. He said the supermarket was in an area of Rosario that has seen frequent crimes, and that he had raised the issue in recent meetings with law enforcement officials. However, they have taken no action as of yet.
“Where are the ones who need to take care of us?” Javkin said. “It’s clear that those who have the weapons and have the possibility of investigating the criminals aren’t doing it, and it’s very easy for any gang to carry out something like this.”

Javkin speaks about the lack of trust in authorities
The city’s mayor, Pablo Javkin, visited the supermarket and lashed out at federal authorities. He said that they had failed to curb drug-related violence in Rosario. “I doubt everyone, even those who are supposed to protect us,” Javkin said in an interview with the local radio station. Prosecutor Federico Ribola said authorities reviewed security footage, and the preliminary investigation was ongoing. He added that this was the first time Messi’s in-laws had faced something like this.
Drug-related violence has been part and parcel of Rosario and has been typical in the city for the past 20 years. The federal government’s security minister said the incident was an example of how drug traffickers “have won” in Rosario, but now “we have to reverse that.”
