Lionel Messi’s Barcelona return looks highly unlikely as reports claim that he might play in MLS after his stint at PSG

As per Alex Candal of DIRECTV Sports, Lionel Messi is expected to sign with Inter Miami in the MLS after his term with Paris Saint-Germain expires.

This is a tentative report, and things might alter dramatically in the coming years. Messi would most likely start looking for a new phase if PSG fails to make an impact in the UEFA Champions League next season. Candal claimed that the next chapter will take place in America, with David Beckham’s Miami team.

Messi is still one of the best football players in the world, regardless of his age. After Barcelona failed to fulfill his contract, he hinted at a move to Manchester City before settling down at PSG. Even if the Argentine great receives a large ownership part in Inter Miami, it’s difficult to imagine him declining a lucrative opportunity to keep playing in one of Europe’s top leagues.

Is Lionel Messi going to play for Inter Miami in the MLS?

Inter Miami has long been associated with the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner, and Candal claims that the David Beckham-owned club has already set out a contract for Barca’s all-time scorer and appearances leader that’s yet to be signed.

However, before heading to Inter Miami, Messi will buy a 35 percent ownership in the MLS club and begin living his ultimate American Dream. While still at Camp Nou, Messi voiced a great desire to play in the United States, telling La Sexta before the turn of the century, “I always had the ambition of being able to experience and having the pleasure of living in the US, see what the competition there is like.”

Messi was booed by home supporters at the Parc des Princes this season, and there were whispers that he might return to FC Barcelona shockingly.

Both Messi’s father, Jorge, and Catalan president Joan Laporta have expressed their desire for Messi to return to the Blaugrana, although this appears more unlikely once he hangs up his boots and takes up a post off the pitch as a sporting director or something comparable.
