Lionel Messi has received intense criticism from the Associated Press following news of his exclusive relationship with the MLS Media. The Argentine superstar has taken the League by storm, not losing a single game, winning the club’s first trophy, and qualifying for another. Now, recent reports reveal that Messi has a special agreement with the MLS, allowing him to speak with the press whenever he wants.
After the game against the New York Red Bulls, the Associated Press claimed that the Argentine broke media rules by refusing to give a post-match interview. However, the MLS clarified that there was no such violation and that it was a misunderstanding. This development arose after MLS Vice President Dan Courtemanche said that Leo Messi would be available for match interviews like every other player in the League. Messi also failed to appear in front of the media after the draw against Nashville.
Meanwhile, the Athletic has revealed that the superstar has an exclusive arrangement in place with the league. This allows Messi to pick and choose his media appearances. Inter Miami owner and LA Galaxy player David Beckham used to make regular media appearances and gave interviews during his time as a player in the MLS. On the other hand, Miami’s marquee player Messi has not spoken to the press even once after his arrival.
Lionel Messi and Inter Miami are currently on an unbeaten streak of nine games since Leo joined the club. Miami faces LAFC in their next league fixture and is 14th in the MLS.
