A touchline suspension for Jurgen Klopp‘s red card incident during Liverpool’s 1-0 victory against Manchester City has been avoided. After the Reds manager yelled at a linesman for failing to call a foul for City’s Bernardo Silva’s egregious manhandling of Mohamed Salah, which led to Silva’s dismissal, the FA had filed complaints last week.

Although a touchline ban was anticipated, the FA chose not to make a decision until Liverpool’s match against Nottingham Forest the following weekend. The German manager was able to dodge a ban and formally acknowledge that his behavior had been “improper,” but the English football governing body ultimately opted to fine Klopp £30,000 for his actions.

Immediately after the incident, Klopp had openly acknowledged his error: “Of course, red card, my fault. I went over the top in the moment,” he said of the incident at the time.

“I don’t think I was disrespectful to anybody, but when you look at the pictures back, I know myself, at 55 years, the way I look in these moments is already worth a red card – who cares what I say.

“I lost it in that moment, it’s not OK. But I think, a little bit as an excuse, I would like to mention: how can you not whistle that foul?”

The Football Association (FA) announced on Tuesday that Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp has been charged with improper conduct as a result of his outburst at the assistant referee during his team’s 1-0 Premier League victory over Manchester City at the weekend.

After Mohamed Salah of Liverpool was refused a free kick at Anfield late in the second half, Klopp was sent from the pitch for arguing with the referee. “Juergen Klopp has been charged with a breach of FA Rule E3 following the Premier League game between Liverpool FC and Manchester City FC on Sunday,” the FA stated.

With a thrilling 1-0 victory over Manchester City thanks to a late strike from Mohamed Salah, Liverpool kicked off their Premier League campaign and moved four points clear of Arsenal at the top. Fresh off his swift hat-trick in the Champions League midweek against Rangers, Salah connected on Allison’s long clearing in the 76th minute to hand reigning champions City their first loss of the year.

Phil Foden‘s goal was disallowed for City, who could have surpassed their opponents by 16 points with a victory, while Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp was dismissed for arguing with a linesman following a tackle on Mohamed Salah.
