“Liverpool is Liverpool”- Twitter goes wild as Liverpool beats Villarreal 3-2 in the Champions League to secure a place in the tournament’s final

Villarreal took an emphatic lead over Liverpool in the first half to bring back the tie to level terms after Dia and Coquelin scored before the break to lead 2-0 on the night. Villarreal fully dominated Liverpool’s defense and scored only in the third minute as Dia scored from Capu’s cross. Liverpool players were stunned by the attacking prowess of the men in yellow.

However, Liverpool turned the tie on its heads again in the 61st minute after Fabinho scored the comeback goal to give them the lead on aggregate. Within six minutes from the first goal of the second half, Luis Diaz converted from Salah’s cross and Sadio Mane went all alone after Rulli’s blunder to make it 3-2 in favour of the Merseyside.

Liverpool reached their tenth final of the biggest European competition in the hardest way. The tie was brought level in the first half by the home side but Liverpool had their answer in the second half.

Villarreal started the game very positively and dominated most of the first half and got into the game in the 3rd minute after Dia opened the scoring and they decreased the score on aggregate terms.

Coquelin brought the tie on level terms just before the break as he scored a header. However, Liverpool made a classic comeback which is for the first time to reach their 10th final. Liverpool scored 139 goals for the season in all competitions which is the highest by any club in a single year.

Sadio Mane scored a solo goal after Villarreal’s goalkeeper made a mess of the situation and Mane didn’t fail to capitalize on the mistake and scored Liverpool’s third of the night. He becomes the first player from Africa in the champions league history to score 15 UCL Knockout stage goals surpassing Didier Drogba’s record.

Liverpool goes one step closer to achieving the quadruple this season

Liverpool is already in the finals of the FA Cup 2021-22, where they will play against Chelsea. In the Premier League, they are just one point behind Manchester City and can pull off the title.

Having already won the Carabao Cup, the Reds will also eye the Champions League this season, meaning that they can get their hands on the quadruple by playing just six more good matches and hoping the Manchester City drop some points in the Premier League.
