Liverpool makes Darwin Nunez a priority as they submit an initial bid of £85 million to Benfica: Reports

Darwin Nunez

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool are on the hunt for a new striker this summer and they have identified Darwin Nunez as their main priority. The 22-year-old has caught the eye of many this season after he scored 34 goals in all competitions for the Portuguese club.

The Premiere Liga top scorer has himself told Benfica of his intentions to move and they would be ready to go of the striker if a sizable bid does come. Benfica has valued Nunez at around €100 Million (£85.5M). Liverpool is set to lose Sadio Mane this season with Roberto Firmonhi also on the for sale list. Hence, Nunez comes in as the best replacement for Klopp’s side.

Manchester United also interested but Liverpool priority for Darwin Nunez

New Manchester United boss, Eric ten Hag has also shown interest in the Uruguayan striker. In fact, the Red Devils are even ready to pay more than Liverpool to get Darwin Nunez to Old Trafford. However, as reported by Portuguese news outlet Record Portugal, Darwin Nunez only wants a move to Anfield.

Liverpool can offer Nunez Champions League football as well while the thought of playing at a club that can even compete for multiple trophies itself is exciting. Manchester United on the other hand play Europa League and are nowhere close to competing with Liverpool at this stage.

Many pundits have also urged the Uruguayan striker to follow the footsteps of Luiz Suarez and snub an Old Trafford move for Liverpool. Liverpool has also identified Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele and Chelsea’s Christian Pulisic as alternatives should they fail to secure the services of Darwin Nunez.
