Liverpool step down from race to sign Jude Bellingham

Liverpool have reportedly decided to cool their interest in Jude Bellingham. The ยฃ100 million price tag slapped by Borussia Dortmund on the Englishman is too much for the Merseyside club. With two more years left on his contract, Dortmund are in no rush to sell the 19-year-old.

As reported by sky sports, Liverpool will not be spending upwards of ยฃ100 million on a single player. Jurgen Klopp and his recruitment team wish to spread their funds across several signings instead. The Reds are said to be in the market for more than one midfielder in the summer.

Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and James Milner are all out of contract at the end of the season. The Merseyside club will need to have a major overhaul over the upcoming transfer windows if they wish to compete on the biggest stage again. The Red’s midfield will need to be revitalised, and with Jude Bellingham off the cards, it will be interesting to see who the club target.

Marco Reus will reportedly take a pay cut to stay at Borussia Dortmund. Die Schwarzgelben captain is willing to take a hit on his annual salary from โ‚ฌ12m to โ‚ฌ7m. The German international has only ever played for one other club, Borussia Monchengladbach across his career.

Reus came through the youth academy of Borussia Dortmund. In 2009, he made the move to Monchengladbach to kickstart his career. After three successful years playing for the Foals where he won the Bundesliga Player of the Season in 2012, the German moved back to Borussia Dortmund, where he has been playing the past ten years.

Despite being plagued by injuries throughout his career, Marco Reus is a stellar player. Reus has scored the second most goals for Borussia Dortmund across their history, and has played 380 matches for the club. The German international has rejected offers from Real Madrid and Bayern Munich to play for his childhood club, and is the definition of loyalty in the beautiful game.
