Liverpool striker, Darwin Núñez, netted a brace against Newcastle on Sunday as the Reds emerged 2-1 winners. Núñez credits his Uruguay coach Marcelo Bielsa for helping him improve his game.
Darwin Núñez who came on the pitch in the 77th minute of the game netted two goals before the final whistle. The game was a hard-fought battle as Liverpool were 1-0 down by the 25th minute and were down to 10 men by the 28th. Liverpool would have been lucky to leave St. James’ Park with 1 point let alone 3. The arrival of the Uruguayan striker changed the game. A mistake from Sven Botman put Darwin through on goal who hit the ball with sheer perfection past Nick Pope to level 1-1.
Minutes later, a positional error by Dan Burn put Núñez through on goal again sealing the win for the Reds. A resilient performance by Liverpool as they never gave up on the attack even with a man down. As for the home fans they were left in utter shock by Newcastle’s performance in the later stages.
With only 9 goals in the league last season, Darwin Nunez will be hoping that this season turns out differently. According to him, he has the support of Marcelo Bielsa, the current Uruguay National Team Coach. So, no doubt, Darwin will be looking to move from being a raw talent to a talismanic striker under Jurgen Klopp.
Liverpool face Aston Villa on Saturday, 3rd of September. Carrying the momentum from the Newcastle game, fans at Anfield will be hoping that the performance was not a one-off and that Nunez’s meet with Bielsa can reap rewards in the long run.
Liverpool’s transfer window

It comes as no surprise that Liverpool have had a busy transfer window. With their captain Jordan Henderson leaving the club alongside Fabinho and Milner, the Liverpool squad which achieved glory together is quickly moving out. Fan favorite Roberto Firmino also left for Saudi Arabia along with others who have left the club. Jurgen has a major task at hand as he aims to rebuild his Liverpool side to be once again a formidable team in Europe.
The acquisition of World Cup winner Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Wataru Endo has shown that Liverpool severely needed to replace their midfield as many of the Old Guard left the squad. While Endo does play as a CDM, it will be interesting to see whether Klopp goes searching for another defensive midfielder as Endo is already 30yrs and by the end of the contract will be 34. Liverpool have been eyeing Crystal Palace Midfielder Cheick Doucouré. But if Liverpool are to complete the transfer, it needs to happen quickly as the transfer window slams shut on Friday, 1st September.
Mo Salah‘s future also seems under doubt as the Egyptian is apparently willing to move to Saudi Arabia. Klopp is completely against this and has responded that Salah will not leave the club. However, if the right fee does exist, who can replace Salah? This is a dilemma that Klopp will not want to face.
