Graeme Souness jumped to Cristiano Ronaldo’s defense after the pundit cited Erik ten Hag and Manchester United as the causes of his “very frustrated” state. Souness’ new column for The Daily Mail is absurd to even by his usual high standards.
After Cristiano Ronaldo’s unacceptable actions on Wednesday night, the legendary player from Liverpool has joined the club of Ronaldo’s ardent supporters in defending the 37-year-old. A few minutes before the final whistle, Ronaldo suddenly exited the dugout and marched down the tunnel by himself. The forward has been swiftly punished by Ten Hag and will not be selected for this weekend’s team. On Thursday, he also practiced separately from the first team.
Ronaldo is clearly in the wrong in this circumstance, but Souness has taken an unconventional approach to the midweek drama. The 70-year-old sensationally asserted that Ronaldo is “plainly unhappy, upset, and very frustrated and it is United’s making”

The record-setting Champions League scorer, who just last week scored his 700th club goal, wasn’t started by United manager for the first time this year. Ronaldo hasn’t been the Red Devils’ first-choice forward under Erik Ten Hag.
The 37-year-old, who had returned to Manchester the previous year, was also mentioned in connection with leaving during the summer transfer window. The attacker was said to be disappointed that United couldn’t stay in the Champions League since he wanted to play in the competition.
However, as the deadline drew near, it became clear that Ronaldo would stay with his childhood club through the upcoming transfer window.
