Multiple location issues have arisen for the next World Cup, slated to be hosted in the United States and Canada. This situation can potentially deprive football fans in the United States of a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. However, one of the key cities in the United States, Los Angeles, known as the hub of Hollywood, is on the verge of losing its opportunity to host the World Cup due to a disagreement with FIFA.
The renowned owner of Arsenal and the LA Rams– Stan Kroenke, owns the SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, which was set to host the World Cup games in 2026, as reported by ESPN reporter John Sutcliffe.
The billionaire is refusing to make significant changes to accommodate football. The changes, as understood, would require him to remove luxury boxes and stands in the stadium. As the media understands, he is unwilling to pay them for the restructuring. Sutcliffe, along with football fans worldwide, expresses surprise at the lack of preparation and adaptability demonstrated by Stan Kroenke for hosting the world’s biggest tournament.
Regardless of other potential venues in the city, the games might be assigned to major cities like New York or Dallas. This action could enhance viewership and revenue generated through the games, given the inadequate conditions of the stadiums.
How do the Gooners feel about Stan Kroenke as the owner of Arsenal?
It is not just the FIFA that Stan Kroenke, owner of Los Angeles’ SoFi Stadium, has a dispute with, it seems. Fans of the Arsenal Football Club, the Gooners, have long brewing hate towards their owner Stan. Further, to refresh the memories of football fans, there was a protest outside the Emirates 2 years ago against the American billionaire as he was found to be a founding member of the Super League.
Nowadays, many clubs’ fans hate their owners. Especially in the Premier League. A prime example is the Fenway Sports Group Holdings, LLC, aka FSG- an American multinational sports holding conglomerate- founded by John W. Henry, owner of Liverpool Football Club. FSG are hated by the scousers to the core.
An American again, a coincidence one might wonder but it is not! It is not hidden that American billionaires look to buy stakes in different sports clubs. In the end, they divert their funds into too many pools, making it difficult to please one set of fans.
Meanwhile, Stan Kroenke, who’s been in London for 12 years, is unpopular with Arsenal fans. But he is adored in Denver and Los Angeles. This is because Arsenal hasn’t won the Premier League in 19 years, while the Denver Nuggets and Los Angeles Rams have been successful.
As the new season begins, Stan hopes to win over British fans. Arsenal is a favorite for the Premier League, but it’s still too early to predict the winner.
