Former Spain coach Luis Enrique refuses to give opinion on Luis Rubiales’ kiss controversy with Jenni Hermoso, says he has done ‘exceptional’ work

The controversy that ensued after Luis Rubiales‘ celebrations during the World Cup award ceremony has left social media, fans, and players expressing their opinions regarding the same. Following their World Cup victory, RFEF President Luis Rubiales was seen kissing Jennifer Hermoso on the lips. This sparked global outrage on social media against the President asking for his resignation and termination from his position of power.

When asked about the same, former Spanish National coach and current PSG head coach Luis Enrique replied, “In terms of the episode that took place in the last game [with Hermoso], I think the president himself has acknowledged his mistakes. I don’t think it’s necessary for me to give my opinion.” To the disappointment of many, Enrique did not give a comment regarding the incident.

The ex-Barca coach ‘played it safe’ and did not make a stand according to several netizens. He also praised the President’s work with the national team, saying “He’s done exceptional work.” Enrique was speaking with regard to the achievements during his tenure as President.

The Spanish Women’s National team has declared that they will not play unless Rubiales resigns. Meanwhile, Hermoso’s teammate Alexia Putellas has made a statement saying that “it’s over” for Rubiales and that she stands in solidarity with her teammate.

Luis Enrique admits mistake playing Mbappe and Dembele

Even after both Kylian Mbappe and Dembele featured in their first league match, the game ended 1-1 after both sides converted from the spot. The defending Ligue 1 champions have struggled to register goals in their first two games in the competition. So, with Luis Enrique as head coach, PSG is yet to taste victory in the league.

Post-match, while speaking to the press, Enrique said, “My analysis was incorrect after Toulouse. We have to work on this adaptation of the players. Finding a balance based on new entrants is the most exciting thing to come for me.” Enrique also admitted that he made a mistake in his team selection in the second half.
