In a recent press conference, Luis Rubiales states he ‘will not resign’ as Spanish FA Chief. He would then go on to state the reason for the ‘said kiss’ to occur.

A press conference took place on the 25th of Aug’23, people were expecting Luis Rubiales to resign after his controversy. However, the man stated he would not resign. He would go on to state that the kiss was ‘mutual and consensual’. Rubiales narrates the whole story where he mentions consoling the player for her missed penalty earlier in the game. The player, apparently, replied in kind and then Rubiales asked for ‘a peck?’ after which the whole incident occurred. Not a single person online as of now can believe a single word out of his mouth.

Former Spain GK, Iker Casillas called him an ‘embarrassment‘. David De Gea tweeted stating, “His ears were bleeding.” This statement comes as a shock after the player herself, Jenni Hermosa, already publicly stated earlier that she did not want to kiss or enjoy the kiss shared with the FA chief. Less than a week since the incident, the Spanish FA seem to be digging their own graves with each public statement. Rubiales was also accused of hosting sex parties using the Spanish FA’s funds back in September’22. The Spanish FA chief seems to be unable to keep himself out of trouble.

After Rubiales’s statement in the press conference, the Madrid Prosecutor’s office officially opened a file on Rubiales for his alleged crime of sexual assault.

Jorge Vilda to stay?

During the press conference, Luis Rubiales offered to extend Jorge Vilda‘s tenure as national coach for 4 more years with a yearly salary of half a million Euros. Why would this be an issue especially after Spain won the World Cup under his management? Jorge Vilda, who succeded former coach Ignacio Quereda in 2015, has also been part of an abusive system which has hurt the Spanish women’s team.

Back in September’22, 15 Spanish players wrote an email to the Spanish FA with their complaints on the manager. The players felt oppressed by his system of management. Players complained that the manager created an environment of stress and anxiety. Some mentioned they were not allowed to leave the team hotel to meet family members or even receive their post cards. The weirdest of them all, he would tell his players to leave their hotel room unlocked so he could check on them post-curfew.

In 2022, Romain Molina completely exposed the French Football Association with cases involving sexual assault on minors, sexual blackmail of male and female referees and numerous other details. In 2021, a documentary named ‘Breaking the Silence‘ was released where the female Spanish players all spoke on the sexual abuse and coercion they faced from former manager Ignacio Quereda. Football while it may create beautiful moments, Spain celebrating in unison at their women’s achievement, the path to get there seems to be riddled with crimes that should not be forgiven.
