Former Barcelona legend Luis Suarez has confirmed his move to Inter Miami as the Uruguayan striker joins David Beckham’s club from Gremio. This new chapter in the veteran’s career certainly caught the eyes of football fans all around the world as the famous Barca players reunite.
The 36-year-old became a free agent and will now be partnering his close friend Lionel Messi in the attack. Suarez expressed his excitement about the move, also fueled by his dedication to his new club in a social media post. He also expressed his eagerness to win titles with his new club, showcasing his hunger for glory even at his age.
Xavier Asensi, who is the Chief of Business for Inter Miami described the title as a ‘monumental moment’ for the club. Suarez had earlier terminated his contract due to excessive travel and a knee problem. He will now be playing with Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba, and Messi again, just like the old times at Barca.
Furthermore, Luis Suarez’s contract in Miami runs for a year with an option to extend it further to 2025. Subsequently, top Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano highlighted that the key elements were the calls with Messi and the idea of sharing the same space with his old Barcelona teammates. It is also reported that Suarez rejected several other offers to make the Inter Miami move happen!
The great feats that Messi and Suarez achieved together
Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez has left Gremio to join Inter Miami for the 2024 season, marking a reunion with former Barcelona teammate Lionel Messi. The move rekindles one of football’s deadliest partnerships, with Messi and Suarez combining for 621 goals in 258 games during their time at Barcelona, securing 13 trophies together.
Despite Suarez’s age (37) and recent injuries, Inter Miami takes the gamble, parting ways with Josef Martinez and relying on the Messi-Suarez connection to boost their MLS ambitions.
The decision raises questions about Suarez’s impact at 37 and the team’s strategy, emphasizing the pivotal role of left-back Jordi Alba, who played a significant part in providing assists to both Messi and Suarez during their Barcelona days. As Suarez faces Messi in the upcoming Uruguay vs. Argentina World Cup qualifiers, the football community anticipates whether the historic duo can replicate their success in the MLS.
