Romelu Lukaku looks all set to leave AS Roma at the end of the season. As per football journalist Fabio Santini, the striker has agreed to a “millionaire proposal from Saudi Arabia“. Lukaku has enjoyed a rather tumultuous time at Roma but eventually managed to find his feet in recent games. The striker accumulated 11 goals in 18 games for Jose Mourinho‘s side.
Romelu Lukaku currently piles his trade with AS Roma in Serie A. The Belgian is on loan from Chelsea after falling out of favor at the club last season. However, following a strained summer and arrival at Roma, the 30-year-old now looks ‘certain’ to leave the Italian outfit to join the long list of players that have jumped ship to Saudi Arabia.
Santini said that a move to Juventus is unlikely, given the fact that the player has given the ‘thumbs up’ to a deal in Saudi Arabia. “At the end of the year, one thing is certain – Romelu will leave“, was the message Santini had for Roma fans.
The player recently made headlines for a horrific challenge on Christian Kouame against Fiorentina. He will feature against Sheriff in the Europa League but will miss Roma’s next game in Serie A.
Jose Mourinho explains Roma’s future and potential transfers
Jose Mourinho is currently enjoying his third season in charge at Roma. The Portuguese tactician is nearing the end of his contract (2024) and there has not been much talk of an extension. On the other hand, the club has already qualified for the RO16 in the Europa League and is seeking to top their group with a win against Sheriff.
The Olimpico like this is always a motivation. Tomorrow we will have to win for them.
He urged the fans to keep hope and added “Nobody thinks Slavia will lose tomorrow…but anything is possible“. He then contrasted the team’s transfer market capabilities to that of Manchester City. He stated that he is not “jealous“, but getting Kalvin Philips for €80 million and then getting someone else is not something Roma can do.
He then explained the team’s hopes in the transfer market. He said that Roma signing a defender would be ideal. However, wanting more players is easier said than done. “It’s not possible,” said Mourinho, pointing to their situation to sign more players. He also added that signing a defender would invite complications in the UEFA squad list. Roma are currently 4th in Serie A, behind Milan, Juventus and Inter.
