Manchester United kicked off the ‘Ratcliffe’ era with an emphatic 3-2 win at Old Trafford. Erik ten Hag and co. were booed by the home crowd as they went into the tunnel at half-time. However, in a commendable turn of fortune, the boys in Red overturned a two-goal deficit to win the game 3-2. However, United legend Paul Scholes opined that one particular player was lucky to be on the pitch against Aston Villa.
A brace from Alejandro Garnacho and an 82nd-minute winner from Rasmus Højlund ensured that Manchester United did not go winless for a fifth consecutive game. However, it was later revealed that Ten Hag was planning to substitute Højlund prior to his goal. However, Marcus Rashford picked up a knock and was replaced by Antony. Højlund then went on to grab the all-important winner against Unai Emery‘s men.
"He does get a little bit of luck with that goal. He's lucky he's on the pitch, but he's not been scoring goals and it was pure instinct. Hopefully, the goal will give him confidence to get up and running",Scholes said, as reported by Europen News Video.
Even though Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho received praise from the club legend, he reminded them that they are highly inconsistent. Paul Scholes urged the team to build on this win and keep going in the same direction.
Manchester United plotting for big moves in January transfer window
With the recent take-over of Manchester United by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the club is now set to undergo significant changes. From players to staff and facilities, a serious ‘overhaul’ awaits Old Trafford. One significant part of this process is the business set to be done in the January transfer window. A name that has been linked with a departure from United is that of Raphael Varane.
The Frenchman was signed in 2021 from Real Madrid for £42 million. However, he has been more of an understudy for Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof during his time at the club. It is understood that United are willing to let go of him for as less as £20 million if an offer arrives in January. In addition to this, Bayern Munich defender Joshua Kimmich is also on United’s shortlist.
Joshua Zirkzee, former Bayern striker is also on United’s watch. The 22-year-old has been putting up impressive numbers for Bologna in Serie A this season. However, Bayern has a buyback option for €22 million installed in his clause. In addition to this, Youssef En-Nesyri has also come under United’s radar after Serhou Guirassy snubbed the Red Devils for Tottenham Hotspur.
