Manchester City and Barcelona agree to a fee in the region of €50-€55 million for Bernardo Silva: Reports
Barcelona Bernardo Silva
Because of personal issues, Bernardo Silva has been considering leaving the Etihad Stadium for the past few seasons. The 27-year-old, who moved to the North-West of England in the summer of 2017 from AS Monaco, is thought to have grown dissatisfied with his way of life there.
As a result, Bernardo Silva has been interested in moving closer to home and is excited about the prospect of joining La Liga. The two teams most likely to sign the Manchester City midfielder have put off any such move, though, due to financial difficulties.
The most likely destination for Silva, who has been a key component of Pep Guardiola’s success at the Etihad Stadium, has always been Barcelona. However, due to the Camp Nou club’s financial limitations, negotiations and transfers stalled significantly until this summer, when Barcelona used economic leverage to sign star players like Robert Lewandowski from Bayern Munich and Raphinha from Leeds United.
Now, Barcelona and Manchester City have reportedly reached an agreement on a transfer fee for Bernardo Silva, according to reports from journalist Gerard Romero. Romero’s claim contradicts reports in some publications that the Premier League champions had adopted a rigid stance on the Portuguese star’s €100 million valuations.
According to current reports, the two clubs, who are closely allied in management roles, have decided on a sum of less than €60 million. The journalist goes on to say that Bernardo Silva’s estimated value is between €50 million and €55 million.
Who would be Bernardo Silva’s replacement at Manchester City?
It’s still anticipated that Manchester City will be active in the closing days of the summer transfer window. Club officials continue to prioritize finding a senior first-team left-back after failing to sign Marc Cucurella from Brighton. The likes of Alex Grimaldo of Benfica and Bona Sosa of VfB Stuttgart have been mentioned as potential options, but targets in the position are scarce.
If Bernardo Silva left, City would probably start looking for a new central midfielder again. Although the club has admiration for Jude Bellingham of Borussia Dortmund, a deal for the England international this summer seems highly unlikely. That might influence the Premier League team to consider players like Lucas Paqueta of Olympique Lyonnais, who is highly regarded by club officials and scouts.
