Manchester City have released a club statement on Pep Guardiola that the 52-year-old manager has been suffering from back-related problems and has flown to Barcelona for treatment. Currently rehabilitating, Man City’s assistant manager Juan Manuel Lillo will take over the first team’s coaching.

Pep Guardiola’s tactics have won him several trophies over his rather short career. Winning the league wherever he goes, Pep is also credited by some to be the reason Spain and Germany won the World Cup. The integration of his tactics in Barcelona and Bayern, many believe, played a huge role in their national team’s success. One of Pep’s lesser-spoken attributes is his ability to adapt to the game in real time as he is always seen giving instructions to his players whenever he gets the chance.

Pep’s tenure has been magical for Manchester City, not for the other 19 clubs. His dominant possession-based football frustrates teams as they require 110% concentration to deal with his side. They are patient in breaking down opponents and know exactly how to utilize the empty spaces on the field. One of the most technical squads in the Premier League, all his players need to be/and are comfortable on the ball.

However, his absence will be felt by the City players as the Spanish genius will not be able to manage his team from the pitch side. But he is expected to return on their trip to West Ham on the 16th of September. With their next two games against newly promoted sides, Sheffield United and Fulham, Man City by their standards should have no problems against their opposition.

Pep Guardiola has turned the Premier League into nothing. 5 titles in 6 years, 3 back-to-back titles with the possibility of a 4th consecutive title. Pep’s Man City side will have etched its name in Premier League History.

For years fans had ridiculed Manchester City for not winning the biggest prize, the Champions League. When it finally happened, they did it in style. Winning the league with a few games to spare after spending the majority of the season behind contenders Arsenal. A 2-1 win at Wembley against their city rivals Manchester United made it sweeter knowing their rivals could not halt their parade. Finally, a 68th-minute winner brought City the biggest European trophy.

When Pep Guardiola finally won the Champions League with a team sans Lionel Messi, he silenced the critics, the opposition fans and every doubter as his team claimed the biggest prize not in the form of a single trophy but as a part of a historical treble.
