Erling Haaland and Pep Guardiola
Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, thinks Erling Haaland is not performing at his peak. Even though the Norwegian made Premier League history by being the player to achieve 20 goals the quickest during his team’s 3-1 victory over Leeds United, Pep thinks he can still improve.
Erling Haaland extended his remarkable scoring streak on Wednesday at Elland Road with two second-half goals, earning him 20 goals within only 14 games. The closest player to accomplish such a goal total did it seven games more than Haaland.
Underneath Guardiola, the international player from Norway has 20 outings and 26 goals throughout all tournaments. It is the fastest any player has ever done it with Manchester City coach Pep and top-flight teams. “He missed chances. Hopefully, he can do better. But the numbers are exceptional, he is an incredible threat for us and always in the right position at the right time,” Guardiola said as reported by Fabrizio Romano.
“I have the feeling he is not at his best. It is a matter of time. Of course, we are delighted, but that little pace he had at the beginning of the season, now he maybe struggles a little bit, but it’s a question of time. I am still more than satisfied, but I had the feeling in the first part of the season he was sharper,” he added. As Norway did not participate in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, Erling Haaland was given ample leisure to think about his subsequent steps. The 22-year-old claimed that this interval fueled his desire for excellence.

Erling Haaland, a forward for Manchester City, extended his recent scoring spree on Wednesday by hitting a spectacular brace in his team’s 3-1 Premier League victory against Leeds United (December 28). Haaland, 22, has had a remarkable record of 24 goals in just 19 outings throughout all competitions going into the meeting at Elland Road. Nobody was astonished when the unstoppable Norwegian netted twice in City’s match against Leeds.
In the 51st minute, he scored his first goal after Jack Grealish had capitalized from a slip-up by Leeds defender Robin Koch. Grealish outmuscled Leeds’ goalkeeper Illan Meslier one-on-one before selflessly laying the ball off for Haaland to score. The second goal by the Norwegian came in the 64th minute when he once again connected with Grealish before blasting the ball beyond Meslier.
Since joining Manchester City from Borussia Dortmund in the summer, he has scored 26 goals in his first 20 outings, including 20 in 14 league matches. He has already matched or surpassed the Golden Boot total in each of the previous five Premier League campaigns. Haaland scored twice in a game held in the town where he was raised and over a team that his father, Alfie Haaland, formerly featured for.
