Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola registers his name in elite list of managers by breaking an all-time Champions League record
The Cityzens defeated Bayern Munich to reach the UCL semifinals, adding another win to Guardiola's tally.
Pep Guardiola has amassed 100 wins in the Champions League after his side made it through to the Semi-Finals. Manchester City defeated Bayern Munich 4-1 on aggregate to reach the next round of the knockout stage.
The former Bayern Munich boss is only the third manager to reach this milestone. Carlo Ancelotti and Sir Alex Ferguson are the only two managers to have done the same. However, the Spaniard is the quickest to 100 wins, having required only 158 games to achieve this feat.
The Cityzens were much the better side across the two legs of the Quarter-Finals. However, their strength will be on full test in the next stage of the competition. Manchester City will face 14-time Champions, Real Madrid, in the Semi-Finals.
The Madrid-Machester duel provided immense drama in last year’s UCL season, with the Los Blancos hitting a quickfire double to take the game into extra time, where they would run out eventual winners. Guardiola will be hoping his team could go one better and defeat Real Madrid this season, and finally win the long-awaited Champions League title.

Manchester City reach three consecutive UCL Semi-Finals for first time in history
Pep Guardiola has broken yet another record, taking the Cityzens to their third consecutive Champions League Semi-Final. Manchester City have qualified for this stage of the competition in all of their last three years in the UCL.
The Cityzens reached the Semi-Finals by defeating Bayern Munich in the quarters. Guardiola’s City experienced heartbreak in the last two editions of the competition, losing to Chelsea in the 2021 Champions League final and to Real Madrid in dramatic fashion in the 2022 season.
The Blue side of Manchester would be hoping for better luck in the latter stages of the competition this time around. Guardiola had previously commented on his failure to win the UCL during his stint at the Etihad, saying, “It’s the trophy we want. My period here will not be complete if we don’t win it.” The Cityzens will take on Real Madrid in the Semifinals and would be hoping to slay their demons from the Santiago Bernabeu last season.
