Manchester City’s judgment day has been set. The reigning Premier League champions were hit with the infamous 115 charges last February. Premier League CEO Richard Masters has confirmed that a date has been fixed for City’s trial. The news comes off the back of rumors that the league is lining up potential sanctions for Everton and Nottingham Forest as well.
City have been charged with 115 breaches, which include a myriad of violations such as failure to follow FFP regulations and breaking the League’s profit and sustainability guidelines. Moreover, other elements such as failure to cooperate with the investigation in previous years and hiding their true sources of revenue have also been highlighted.
The club has also been accused of not revealing players’ original wages and using ‘secret’ contracts to pay them. Even though the Prem CEO has announced that “a date has been set“, no further details have been provided. It is rumored that the trial will start in autumn, meaning Manchester City may not know their fate until 2025.
If found guilty, the club will face harsh sanctions. This includes potential expulsion from the Premier League, spending limits, transfer bans, and being stripped of previous PL titles.
Manchester City bag six spots in FIFA FIFPRO World 11
Manchester City enjoyed the most successful season for a club in Europe last season. Hence, it comes off as no surprise that the Citizens have the highest number of players in the World 11 announced by FIFA and FIFPRO. The ‘6 player’ record was last attained by a Pep Guardiola team itself, but in 2010. The Spaniard’s 2010 Barcelona team was the last squad to attain this unique record.
From their backline, Ruben Dias, John Stones, and Kyle Walker made the cut. City’s defense remained resolute throughout the season as Dias and Stones put up brilliant performances in defense. Kyle Walker also played a crucial role on the right flank for Guardiola’s team. Of all players, Kevin De Bruyne deserves a spot in the World 11. The Belgian was at the heart of Pep’s team and played an irreplaceable role in their attack.
Bernardo Silva, City’s elegant #20 also grabbed his spot in the 11. He was accompanied by none other than record-breaking striker Erling Haaland. The Norwegian had a monumental season, which saw him end the year as both Premier League and UEFA Champions League top scorer. Pep Guardiola was named The Best Men’s Coach of the Year as well.
