Manchester City defeated Inter Milan 1-0 in the Champions League final. They were termed as the favorites of the tournament every season ever since Pep Guardiola joined the club in 2016. In 2021, they came close but were defeated by eventual champions Chelsea in the finals. People expected them to finally win it the next year. But they were knocked out in the semi-finals through an extraordinary performance by Real Madrid. This year, they got into their second final in three years.

They had a relatively weaker opponent in Inter Milan who had struggled heavily in the league. Despite this, the match proved to be tight due to a great performance by Andre Onana. Both teams struggled to score. Until finally City’s Rodri became the difference maker. He received the ball through a deflection outside the box, which he then finished beautifully giving the English team the lead.

It proved to be the winner of the game as Inter had no reply to the goal. City had finally won the Champions League under Pep Guardiola. They also won the European treble replicating their rivals Manchester United in 1999. Rodri has now commented on his goal saying, “It’s a very special moment for me. I’ve watched the goal about 5,000 times – in all the countries, in all the different languages. In my country, English, German, Italian.”

Manchester City are closing in on RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol. The Croatian is ready to leave the Bundesliga side to join the English champions. Pep Guardiola is said to be a huge admirer of the player.

There were rumors that the deal had broken down due to Leipzig being unhappy about the details of the deal being leaked. However, both parties have sorted their differences and the player is set to move.

The transfer fee is said to be around £78.5m. It is just a little lesser than what Manchester United paid for Harry Maguire in 2019. Gvardiol is considered as one of the most talented young defenders in the world and would be a strong addition to City’s already stacked squad.
