Manchester City set to lock horns against Liverpool for the Community Shield on 30th July

Liverpool and Manchester City will kick off their 2022-2023 campaign with the Community Shield match scheduled to take place on Saturday, 30th July.

The two sides won the FA Cup and the Premier League respectively and will fight it out for the first piece of silverware for the new season. The Match will take place at the King Power Stadium instead of the Wembley which will be hosting the women’s Euro Cup 2022.

This year’s Community shield marks the 100th annual event that takes place between the winner of the Premier League and the winner of the FA Cup. Liverpool last won the Community Shield back in 2006 while Manchester City took it home in 2019 as they lost it to Leicester City last year. The kick off shall be 5 pm BST (9:30 pm IST)

Manchester City beat Liverpool last time in the Community Shield

The last time the two sides faced off in the Community Shield was back in 2019 when City won both the Premier League and FA Cup and faced Liverpool who was the Premier League runners-up. The match ended in a 1-1 draw and City prevailed on penalties. That was also the year that Manchester City completed a domestic treble while Liverpool went on to win the Champions League.

Liverpool has won the Community shield on 15 occasions, sharing the title on 5 of them. Making them the third most successful team after Manchester United and Arsenal.

On the other hand, Manchester City has prevailed on 6 occasions with their latest one being against Liverpool back in 2019. Both teams will be eager to kick off their new season with a title. Liverpool will be hoping that they can get over their Champions League final loss and bounce back next season as they once again hunt for the treble.
