Manchester City submits first bid to sign Kalvin Phillips: Reports

Kalvin Phillips

According to The Sun, Manchester City is willing to pay £60 million for Leeds United midfield player Kalvin Phillips. Phillips, 26, has played 234 times for the Yorkshire club in 12 years, but City manager Pep Guardiola views him as the ideal replacement for Fernandinho, who is leaving the club.

Despite the fact that Leeds is prepared to offer him a new contract, the England midfielder, who has been a crucial player for Gareth Southgate in the previous two years, is apparently ready to leave Elland Road.

Phillips appeals to Guardiola due to his versatile ability to play the No. 6 and No. 8 positions, as well as the fact that he qualifies as a homegrown player for City’s Champions League squad enrollment.

Since 2014, he has made 214 appearances for his childhood club at the senior level, making him one of England’s star performances at the Euros. With the England midfielder’s contract expiring in 2024, Leeds United may be required to seriously contemplate parting paths with their number ’23’ in order to recoup their investment.

Leeds is hoping for a sum of £60 million, and Manchester City appears to be willing to match that figure.

The midfielder would be up against Rodri for a starting spot, but competition for spots is crucial in any great team. A transfer away from Leeds is becoming more likely, with Aston Villa, West Ham United, Newcastle United, and Manchester United all apparently interested in acquiring Phillips.
