After being found guilty of aggravated assault, resisting arrest, and repeated attempts of bribery, the Manchester United Club captain initially received a conviction and a 21-month suspended sentence. However, the 30-year-old has launched an appeal, leading to a new trial. He is determined to prove his innocence and clear his name.
As per Greek law, the appeal means that Maguire will have no previous record. The initial conviction was from an incident that occurred during a family vacation before the 2020-21 Premier League season. Maguire, who now has a clean criminal record, will provide testimony via video link instead of appearing in person during the hearing scheduled for February.
The incident occurred when someone tried to inject his sister Daisy with an unidentified substance. A video emerged of him hitting the individual. He stated that he was taken to a police station where he faced physical assault before escaping due to fear of potential kidnapping. Maguire returned to Manchester United’s first team after returning to the UK following the summer 2020 incident. However, he has since lost his starting place since the appointment of Erik Ten Hag.

The caption read, “200 games with the same commitment, dedication, and responsibility, just like the first time I played with this jersey. I am here, continuing to score, pursuing my dream and giving my all for the team and for our country. Por amor a Portugal.” Maguire commented on this post saying “Some achievement” with clapping and fire emojis.
This move came as a surprise to a lot of people. The pair did not seem to get on with each other well when they were playing together. Maguire was said to be part of the group who were not happy with Ronaldo’s return to the club after 13 years. There were reports of a power struggle between the two individuals. But both of them seem to have moved on.
