Manchester United holds back kit release video featuring Cristiano Ronaldo with former no. 7s Eric Cantona and David Beckham

Manchester United has withheld a special promotional video for their new home kit due to the uncertainty surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo’s future with the club. Ronaldo has asked United to consider any suitable offers for him this summer, believing that he will be unable to achieve his ambitions of winning silverware and personal accolades at Old Trafford next season.

Only Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain have the will and funds to pull off a deal at this point, and various reports suggest the former is preparing an opening bid. Bayern Munich has officially ruled themselves out of contention.

With Ronaldo’s future uncertain, Manchester United unveiled their new home kit for the 2022/23 season on Friday, complete with images of the Portuguese superstar wearing the new shirt and a short video in which he appears.

According to The Athletic, a special longer promotional video in which the 37-year-old appears more prominently has been put on hold. The footage appears to show Ronaldo alongside fellow legendary Manchester United no.7s Eric Cantona and David Beckham, and the final version was set to be released alongside the physical kit on Friday.

However, due to Ronaldo’s unexpected potential departure, United agreed with kit manufacturer adidas that the video would be put on hold and could be changed depending on the outcome of the saga. To add fuel to the fire, it was revealed on Thursday that Ronaldo will not be joining the travelling squad for their pre-season tour, at least for the time being.

Cristiano Ronaldo will not be part of the Manchester United party scheduled to depart for our pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia on Friday,” a United spokesperson told the Manchester Evening News. He has been granted additional time off to attend to a family matter. “Cristiano remains under contract with Manchester United and he is not for sale,” he added.

Despite Manchester United’s public stance, it is widely assumed that the Red Devils are willing to sell Ronaldo for the right price, which is thought to be around £15 million.
