Former Manchester United defender, Rio Ferdinand slammed Liverpool Legend, Jamie Carragher on a social media post on Thursday following Steven Gerrard’s recent move to Al – Ettifaq as a manager for the upcoming season of the Saudi Pro League. Ferdinand criticized Carragher for his silence regarding Gerrard’s decision to join the Saudi Arabian club when he targeted every player who was going there just for the sake of earning more dollars.
Carragher has been flinging out comments and has been quite vocal about expressing his concerns over Saudi Arabia’s increasing influence in the game of Football. Last month, there were reports connecting Bernardo Silva to a potential move to Saudi Arabia. In response to this, Carragher earlier expressed his view, saying, “We need to put an end to this sports-washing.”
Rio Ferdinand posted to the Twitter account of his FIVE YouTube channel, asking, “Jamie Carragher, where are you, man? I heard a lot of talk, a lot of negativity about Saudi. Oh, Bernardo Silva, I can’t believe it. Oh, it’s a disgrace. It needs investigating this league, etc…”
Rio went ahead and directly attacked Carragher by saying, “Steven Gerrard’s gone. You used to carry his boots and his bags to Anfield to games. Your boy is gone over there. I haven’t heard a peep out of you. I’ve not heard how disappointed you are. I want to see him say, ‘I can’t believe Stevie’s gone there.“
“I am actually buzzing for any of the guys who have gone out to Saudi. Because it’s Saudi, people are going mad. But all these other countries and leagues, over the years, have done exactly the same thing,” the former Manchester United star concluded.

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has been linked with a potential move to join Steven Gerrard at Al-Ettifaq
As per multiple reports, Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson is rumored to be considering a transfer to Al-Ettifaq, a club in the Saudi Pro League, where he would reunite with his former teammate Steven Gerrard. At 33 years old, Henderson continues to be a key player for Liverpool. However, with the recent signings of Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister, his playing time under Jurgen Klopp might be reduced in the upcoming premier league season.
Former Liverpool star midfielder, Danny Murphy discussed the possibility of Henderson joining the SPL in an interview with talkSPORT. “(Jordan Henderson leaving) would surprise me. Unless (there is) an honest conversation with Jurgen Klopp about the number of games he is going to play or not. Jordan still looks physically brilliant.”
Murphy also chimed in and said, “He still looks like he has loads to give. He would still be in my Liverpool first XI, 100 percent. Absolutely 100 percent. I would be really surprised (if he joined Gerrard in Saudi Arabia).”
Despite Henderson’s age and not being in his prime years, he played in 43 matches for Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool team last season. Klopp recognizes and appreciates Henderson’s leadership skills, which is why he may consider keeping him for another season.
