Manchester United fans spotted a familiar face at Carrington, the club’s training facility and academy HQ. Watching on from the touchline was none other than Netherlands star and Man United legend Robin van Persie.

While his surprising appearance at the training facility raised a lot of eyebrows, many contemplated the reason for the same. Several rumors have come up within no time, but here’s the real reason why the ‘flying Dutchman’ returned to his former club.

Van Persie made headlines when the Premier League champion was spotted in the stands for Manchester United vs West Ham United. Many fans threw jabs at Arsenal for the player’s decision to snub Arsenal vs Liverpool for the United game. But his appearance at Carrington was not to take charge of the club, but to complete a mandatory element of his UEFA Pro license.

The former player is required to spend time with an international club as part of his license training, and it is no surprise that he chose Manchester United.

He will be closely observing United training sessions and also conduct workshops with members of the United staff. Van Persie also joined Erik ten Hag for dinner earlier this week.

Robin van Persie to Arsenal – Why the Dutchman left north London?

Was it a lack of silverware or simply a change of air? Netizens still haven’t found the answer to why the Dutchman threw an eight-year-old legacy at the Emirates to join Manchester United. Van Persie recently gave insight into his decisions, pointing to a difference in interests and the club’s unwillingness to offer him a deal. Van Persie joined United in 2012 for a fee of £24 million.

His move was followed by great success with the Red Devils. In his first season with the club, the #20 won the Premier League under Sir Alex Ferguson. He went on to be the Premier League’s top scorer that season as well. Van Persie also lifted the FA Community Shield with United before departing in 2015 to join Fenerbahçe SK on a permanent deal.

Van Persie said,

Arsenal don't offer me a new deal, that don't agree with my views - that is a very clear message. I'm perfectly happy with how it ended up. I went to United and we won the league, so I'm perfectly happy with how it turned out.

The 2012 PFA Player of the Year netted 132 times for the Gunners while scoring 58 goals for the Red Devils.
