Bruno Fernandes has dismissed Erik ten Hag’s concerns by saying that tiredness won’t be a problem for the final few games of the season for Manchester United. United have suffered 1-0 defeats against Brighton and Hove Albion and West Ham United in their past two matches that allowed Liverpool to make a comeback for the fourth place in the Premier League table.
Ten Hag’s side is the only team to have played midweek football every week since returning from the World Cup break. Ten Hag has expressed concerns that the huge workload which has come from winning the Carabao Cup final to reaching the FA Cup final, and the quarter-finals of the Europa League, could prove costly at the business end of the campaign.
Bruno Fernandes has been a key player for United this season, playing 54 matches in all competitions, and he is convinced the squad has enough to pull through. He said, “Tiredness is always there. We play many games so that’s normal, but our club wants to play as many games as possible, to be in a position to win trophies and reach finals. You have to find a way to rest when possible.”
United host Wolves at Old Trafford on Saturday before the games against Bournemouth, Chelsea, and Fulham in the Premier League. They need to ensure they make the most of their game in hand on Liverpool to secure Champions League football next season before turning their attention to the FA Cup final against Manchester City on June 3.
Fernandes also added, “This club has to be in that position (4) and I think these players deserve to be there too. The team has done a great job this season when no one thought United could be fighting for the top four. At the beginning of the season, no one put our team in the top six. We knew we could be even higher. And soon this club will be fighting for even bigger things.”
Manchester United can sign Emiliano Martinez
Manchester United’s search for a new goalkeeper is set to lead them to World Cup winner Emilio Martinez – but they face a three-way battle for his signature. Manager Erik ten Hag is pursuing his options as negotiations over a new contract with David de Gea continue to stall. After 12 successive seasons as the United No 1, the Spaniard is out of contract this summer and should he wish to remain at Old Trafford, will have to agree to a huge pay cut from his £375,000-a-week wages.
Ten Hag has been monitoring the likes of Porto stopper Diogo Costa while the club has also been linked to England No one Jordan Pickford, but now Argentine hero Martinez is in the frame. And now the former Arsenal man has three Premier League clubs pursuing him should he decide to leave Aston Villa this summer. According to reports United, Chelsea, and Spurs all are in the mix for his signature.
It has been claimed by the outlet that Martinez is considering changing clubs this summer. Tottenham is leading the chase, though whether the Argentine will consider a move to his former club Arsenal’s North London rivals remains to be seen.
