Bayern Munich’s key star accepts personal terms with Manchester United on deadline day
Sabitzer will add a much needed depth and steel to the English giants in the absence of the other
Manchester United are on the verge of signing Marcel Sabitzer from Bayern Munich on loan, according to reports. The 28-year-old is on his way to England at the time of this report and will look to complete his medical before the transfer window closes. The financials of the deal is yet to be disclosed but it is heard that the personal terms have been agreed upon.
The Red Devils had no initial intentions to sign anyone in the winter after a very busy summer transfer window. However, an injury to Christian Eriksen prompted Eric Ten Haag and co. to look for alternatives in the market. Other senior midfielders, Scott McTominay and Donny Van De Beek are also sidelined.
The Devils’ Dilemma
Manchester United have been a completely different side since the arrival of Eric Ten Haag. The Dutch manager has brought about his own identity, something missing from the side since the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson. One of the key improvements under the manager was the arrival of Christian Eriksen for free from Brentford and the signing of Casemiro from Real Madrid.
The duo have uplifted the side massively with their quality and poise, showing what the club was missing. Both McTominay and Fred have been shifted to the bench. But Andy Carroll’s tackle on the edge of the box on Sunday meant that the Dane would be out of action till May or longer. McTominay was also absent from the last match due to an injury, exposing the skeletal thinness of the squad.
Ten Haag had said on Tuesday, “On deadline day it’s difficult, you can’t make policy on such bad injuries. But we have players in the midfield department. Good players. We have players who can fill the gap.”
While youngsters Kobe Mainoo and Hannibal Mejbri, both in their teens, are touted to be talented individuals, it will be a huge gamble to get them baptized by the fire of the Premier League.

Sabitzer’s chance to save his career
The Austrian combative midfielder made headlines during his Leipzig days making important contributions for the Red Bull franchise. But since his transfer to the Bavarian giants, Sabitzer has slowly faded into insignificance. During his last season at Saxony, Sabitzer played for the full ninety minutes on twenty-one occasions in the Bundesliga and thirty-one times including the Champions League and DFB Pokal. He had also racked up twenty-seven goal contributions during this season.
However, since his transfer to Bayern, he has been a shadow of his former self. In two seasons with the club, Sabitzer has barely played two thousand minutes. His creativity has also diminished significantly with just 4 goal involvements in 56 games, combined. Judging by the fact that he has not played a full match since September 2022, it is safe to say that the former fan favourite has fallen way out of favour with Hansi Flick. Still on the right side of 30, Sabitzer would like to get his career back on track with a move to England.
