Manchester United’s new boss Eric ten Hag set to receive a £50 million boost before the beginning of the summer transfer window: Reports
Eric ten Hag
Manchester United are expecting a huge summer clear-out this year as they look to rebuild under the new boss, Eric ten Hag. As many as 6 Manchester United stars are leaving the club on a free transfer while many others could be on their way out as well. While United aren’t going to pocket any money from the departing stars, they are set to save up to £50 million in their wages alone.
Unsurprisingly, the biggest wages are that of Paul Pogba. As reported by The Mirror, the Frenchman alone cost United £15.08 million annually, and this is excluding the performance-based incentives. Up next is the Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani.
The £13 million a year striker was hardly used by United this season as he faced many injuries and saw his role diminish with the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo. Other big wage players include Juan Mata (£8.3m), Nemanja Matic (£6.2m), and Jesse Lingard (£3.9m).
Eric ten Hag ready to offload as many as 4 other Manchester United stars in the summer
It is not just the players that will leave for free but United could listen to offers for many more as they raise funds for new players. Eric ten Hag has already identified a few players he would like to sign at United and they won’t come off cheap. His primary target, Frenkie de Jong is valued at €85 million while, another target, Jurrien Timber could also cost upwards of €30 million.
As a result, United will listen to offers for players like Aaron Wan Bissaka, Eric Bailly, Anthony Martial, and Phil Jones. United signed Aaron Wan Bissaka 2 years ago for a hefty fee of €55 million. However, the 24 years fell out of the pecking order under interim manager, Ralf Ragnick and doesn’t seem to be Eric ten Hag’s favourite either. Phil Jones faces the exit as well with united in the market for a new defender.
Eric Bailly’s departure also seems imminent after the player’s lack of game time over the last few years. He’s been the club’s third choice defender even behind Victor Lindelof. Anthony Martial’s future lies in the balance as a decision on his future at Old Trafford hasn’t been made. As a result, Eric ten Hag will have a lot of cash reserves in both wages and funds to bring the stars he likes and rebuild Manchester United into the biggest club again.
