Marcus Rashford, the Manchester United forward, received a £650,000 fine from the club for reporting sick before the FA Cup match against Newport. This decision came after a photo of him partying in Belfast the night before surfaced, causing discomfort. The fine equals two weeks’ worth of his wages.

The 26-year-old faces a hefty penalty for skipping the Red Devils’ FA Cup fourth-round match against Newport County due to illness. It was discovered later that he had attended a nightclub party in Belfast just 48 hours before the game. United manager Erik ten Hag, in the post-match conference, disclosed that the issue would be handled internally as the player stayed back at Carrington to recuperate from his illness.

Rashford’s partying has resulted in a hefty £650,000 fine, equal to two weeks of his £325,000 wage. This marks the largest financial penalty on a player for consecutive nights out. The fine adds to Rashford’s difficulties, as he’s only scored four goals in all competitions this season.

Before United’s match against Newport, the English forward had traveled to the Irish city of Belfast. Rashford was ‘reportedly’ accompanied by his friend Ro-Shaun Williams, who plays for Larne FC. They were later spotted at Thompson’s Garage club on Thursday after which Rashford reported of illness. However, it now appears to be a ‘hangover’ for which the English forward missed training.

The forward was left out of the squad to face Newport after he complained of illness after partying in Belfast for two straight days. This has called for disciplinary actions against the player, and there are rising fears that Erik ten Hag may treat him akin to how former forward Jadon Sancho was treated.

This is not Rashford’s first incident after being warned previously for a night out after United were beaten 3-0 by Manchester City in October last year. Additionally, he was omitted from the squad against Wolves last year due to oversleeping and arriving late for a meeting.
